Consequence of Error/Judgement
All duties performed by the Research Assistant should adhere to policies of Good Clinical Practice, standard operating procedures, and UBC policies. Failure to comply with national, provincial, institutional, or ethical standards could result in significant consequences to the subjects, the study, the Principal Investigator, and the institution. Errors in judgment could harm the subjects, delay the progress of the study, result in loss of funding, or otherwise influence the integrity of clinical research. Non-routine decisions or actions should be deferred to the Research Coordinator.

The Research Assistant will supervise students or staff at a lower work classification. This involves training these team members on study protocols.
Minimum Qualifications

Job Summary
The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the Principal Investigators and members of the research team on the execution of multiple research studies related to mental health and addictions at the BRAIN lab in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC. The Research Assistant's primary location locations are at the David Strangway Building. There will also be travel to additional sites in the community. A Criminal Record Check will be required for this position.
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator Dr. Christian Schütz and Lab Manager Jacquelien Chan. They will work in collaboration as a member of an interdisciplinary team with academic researchers at UBC and partner institutions.

HOURS: Part time, 3 days/10 hrs per week

Assists with the direct conduct of the research projects, including:
- Conducts study visits, including obtaining consent, administering questionnaires, and cognitive assessments, and corresponding with participants
- Assists with maintaining equipment/ materials and study documentation, including data cleaning and regular data backups
- Assists with training research assistants
- Assists research coordinator with finance record keeping and scheduling of research assistants
- Coordinates and participates regular meetings with the research team, including organizing team social events, reviews, and update meetings
- Performs other related duties and tasks as required

Preferred Qualifications
No experience in research is required, but it is considered an asset. The applicant should demonstrate experience in a team environment, including well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. They should also demonstrate the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and be comfortable working in a variety of community environments, including acute care units in hospitals. They must also demonstrate the ability to think critically, the willingness to learn and take initiative, and they must be strongly self-directed. They should have the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to work up to 10 hours/week and can work on weekends.
