WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Fire Officer is responsible to Ensure execution of the most effective fire related mitigating measures necessary for the protection of RDM’s assets, processes and employees through the application of the latest fire related safety techniques, technologies and standards. Ensure the operational functionality of the fire station by planning, organizing, delegating and controlling resources effectively to provide an efficient service to the business.
- Execution of the service and maintenance program on portable firefighting equipment to make sure that all equipment is in good working condition and legally compliant.
- Conduct fire prevention inspections in the factory to make sure that we comply to: SANS 10400, 10087, 10089 and 10090.
- Prepare, lead, manage and train personnel for emergency response calls e.g. firefighting, first aid, injuries, explosions and chemical spills.
- Partake in the review of work instructions to ensure that personnel work safely at all times.
- Partake in fire incident investigations and ensure execution of corrective & preventative measures.
- Do standbys when the need arise to minimise the risk when there is an incident or high risk activity being undertaken (e.g. hot works).
- Emergency Response planning & testing.
- Prepare and execute fire breaks at the relevant RDM sites to safeguard the sites from wildfires.
- Plant firefighting training to all operational staff.
- Performance Management for all staff.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Minimum Grade 12 or NQF4 equivalent qualification.
- National Senior Certificate in Fire Technology, or Diploma in Fire Technology through SAESI, or Diploma through IFE.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in an industrial fire department(preferred).
- Hazmat Technician Certificate
- Fire instructor & assessor training or Train the Trainer
- First Aid Level 3
- Ability to function independently in highly pressurized and stressful environments.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Fire Safety Bylaws, Disaster Management Act, Fire Protection Regulations, Fire Brigade Services Act, SANS standards & codes of practice.
- Driving Licence, minimum code C1.
- Must be physically fit, have the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces & under limited visual conditions (subject to fitness assessment).
- Willing to work standby duties as well as planned / unplanned overtime as dictated by working circumstances.
